The History of Piaget

Beginnings in La Côte-aux-Fées

Georges-Édouard Piaget established his first workshop on the family farm in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland, in 1874. The business began with precision movements and components before later generations expanded its watchmaking.

The Ultra-Thin Tradition

Piaget introduced its hand-wound 9P caliber in 1957 and followed it with the automatic 12P in 1960. These movements helped establish the slim proportions that remain central to the Maison’s watchmaking identity.

Gold, Stones, and Creative Design

The first Salon Piaget opened in Geneva in 1959, presenting jewelry alongside watches. Ornamental-stone dials introduced in 1963 helped shape the brand’s colorful approach to watch and jewelry design.

Piaget Polo and a Growing Maison

Piaget Polo arrived in 1979, bringing a relaxed sporting character to the brand. Piaget later expanded its creative and manufacturing base with an atelier in Plan-les-Ouates in 2001.
